Preparing Our Own STS Solution
This is how we prepare our STS solution in-house. We always start using distilled water and prepare the silver compound and the buffer solution separately. Each component is dissolved independently, mixed thoroughly, and then stored in glass containers only.
When preparing the STS, the two concentrates are combined in controlled proportions. The order and constant agitation are essential for the reaction to occur correctly. Freshness is critical, we never store concentrates for more than three weeks.
Once the STS concentrate is ready, it is diluted with distilled water to reach the working solution used in our breeding rooms. If the solution gets older, we discard it and prepare a new batch.
This solution is applied to feminized autoflowers to induce male flower formation, allowing us to collect viable pollen for controlled breeding projects. Applications are repeated every five days, usually two to three times, depending on the response of the plant.
